Meat Free Monday

Since it's Monday and the beginning of the work week for many, it can also be the beginning of something else. Meat Free Mondays! I think that everybody, if they eat meat, should strive for AT LEAST one or two days of no meat each week. Why not? It's healthier for YOU and the planet. Nobody needs to eat meat every day, many people falsely think they do because they have been bombarded with propaganda about that since childhood. So stop being so selfish and cut out the meat at least once or twice a week, preferably more.
Paul McCartney was involved in starting the Meat Free Monday movement and he is also a vegetarian (or a vegan, I'm not exactly sure), this is when he decided to become one, "Many years ago, I was fishing, and as I was reeling in the poor fish, I realized, β€˜I am killing him β€” all for the passing pleasure it brings me.’ And something inside me clicked. I realized as I watched him fight for breath that his life was as important to him as mine is to me."

Anyways, today I went to the dump with all my recyclabes. Went to Kaladi too.

Coffee and Kotex, what else does a girl need? Besides some Prada purses and some really nice fall fashion boots........of course!
Last night it was so windy here that I worried that some of the trees around my house would fall over and land on the house. I guess Fall is arriving with the winds. That's my philosophy on that.
I got lots crossed out on my to do list yesterday and last night, I stayed up until 6 AM this morning because I couldn't sleep.
I might go camping this weekend, if the weather permits, I don't want to go camping if it rains non stop, some rain is ok. Better with no rain at all.

So.....what do you think.....one meat free day a week or two? Is that possible? I think it is! πŸ™‚

WHY?

"Auschwitz begins wherever someone looks at a slaughterhouse and thinks: they’re only animals." ~Theodor Adorno

"Dogs live in tiny cages above the ground all their lives. They are separated from their mothers at an early age and some are slaughtered as pups. They do not feel what walking on the ground is like. They can not mingle with other dogs other than those in cages beside them. They suffer summer heat and freezing winters outdoors. They are not given water; they have to eat human food waste such as kimchi. They get no exercise. They have been known to have their eardrums burst to prevent them from barking. Every natural instinct they have is thwarted by the inhumane and tortuous conditions they must live under.
Dogs are electrocuted, hanged, beaten or burned to death. There is a perverted belief that the meat tastes better if dogs have high adrenaline levels in their meat before they die. Therefore, some dogs are made to experience extreme fear and suffering in the lead up to their deaths. Some dogs are hanged and then beaten while they are hanging and still alive. Others are hanged and then a blow torch is used on them while they are still alive to remove their hair. Others still are simply beaten and tortured to death. Generally, at the markets, dogs are electrocuted and then their necks are broken.
Dogs are turned into dog meat, dog meat soup, dog liquor, and dog β€œhealth” elixirs. Dubious health claims are made about dog products, included the typical claim that it assists male stamina and sexual prowess. Such pathetic claims are made throughout Asia with regard to all manner of animal products to attract equally pathetic male customers. In Korea, over the hottest days of the year, people follow a custom of eating dog meat because it allegedly increases energy. Exercising for health and energy is apparently too much hard work for dog meat eaters."

Taken from koreandogs.org Take a look and see the brutal reality! Do you even care?

I am against ALL forms of cruel treatment towards animals. Animals can't defend themselves. People need to stop thinking that they can take and kill everything they want just because they can. Do I eat meat? I am not going to be a hypocrite and say that I don't, I do eat meat - but not often.
I have been a total vegetarian before. People think they need to eat meat every day - they are wrong. You can eat protein rich grain like quinoa (mother of all grains), it is very tasty and good for you. I eat quinoa. We also need to care more about how the animals are treated during their lives leading up to the slaughter. Could you do this to an animal, mistreat it before you take it's life to feed yourself? Where is the compassion?
My pitbull Chhaya is my loyal, beautiful, wonderful best friend. It hurts in my heart that so many dogs end up this way. I have petted cows, horses, goats, pigs - you name it and seen the goodness in them. I am so ashamed to be a human, I live in a materialistic cruel society consumed by things that are superficial and of no real importance.
Therefore I am no better myself. I know this and it feels awful.
Sure, I can sign hundreds of petitions but will things change for the better for all animals?
It's much easier to read gossip magazines, watch tv and talk about absolute nonsense. I don't like this world. Too much pain and suffering.
And too many people that are too busy to care about anything but their own benefit.
How shameful! Ugh.....I am really sad right now......

Heartbreaking

This makes me so sad! This cute boy pitbull stayed with his mate for almost 15 hours after she got struck by a car. She died. πŸ˜₯
He stayed with her and nuzzled her. Poor babies! Now he is up for adoption. I hope he ends up in a loving home where he can find another friend to play with. I wish I could take him in.......
I can't believe that some people still think that animals do not have emotions.

This is what I think about....

......the Kentucky Derby and other events when animals run or fight for the sake of entertaining humans.
I am against it. Of course, I am one of those annoying animal lovers.
Actually I was thinking about writing an entry about the Kentucky Derby yesterday but decided against it, for the moment. I sometimes have an idea for a blog but then I put it off for another time, or forever. So today when I was checking my comments I saw that one of my nice readers left me a comment and some of it was about the Kentucky Derby. So I commented back. And this entry is basically what I replied back in my comment.
I do not know much about the Kentucky Derby. I know it is a horse race that I believe happens once a year. I read somewhere that there are about 36 000 horses bread every year but only one can win the Kentucky Derby.
It is a dangerous and brutal race. Many horses get injured and out of those, many get put down due to their injuries because the owners/investors do not think it is worth keeping the horse alive. Two examples of horses put down due to injuries that happened at the race......Barbaro and Eight Belles.
And what happens to the horses that retire from the race? Well, many of them end up in slaughter houses. What a nice place to end up after you have faithfully served and entertained humans. Would you treat your beloved dog or cat like that?
I am also totally againts dog fighting, bird fighting, Greyhound racing, fox hunting and zoo's.
Fortunately there are people out there that love animals so much that they opened up sanctuaries for them. I really admire people like these, they make me want to better myself as a person.
One place is called Black Beauty Ranch and I think about half of the animal residents there are equines.
Then there is Old Friends Equine, a place where race horses can retire and live well instead of getting slaughtered.
I could never attend the Kentucky Derby because I would be upset and sad. It reminds me of of when the Romans used to make animals fight each other or humans for the entertainment of the masses. I hope that events like the Kentucky Derby will be outlawed soon and I also think that in the future we will look back at stuff like this and shake our heads in disbelief over that we once used to think this was entertainment.
I think more and more people are realizing that animals are our friends and in my opinion equal to us. They should not have to race, fight or be held in cages for our entertainment.
One more thing, the hats women are wearing at the Kentucky Derby are so ridiculous looking. My advice to the wannabe British Royals is, if you want to feel like royalty, retire that lame hat and go enjoy some afternoon high tea at the Four Seasons or at The Ritz.

Be a responsible pet owner!

I made this little sign and put it up at work. There was an article about the importance of spaying and neutering your pets in the paper last week. A very informative, eye opening article. A dog or a cat left to reproduce can give birth to a staggering amount of babies each year. Far from all the puppies or kittens will find a good home. Many end up abused or abandoned. More than half of the cats and dogs that got taken in by the animals shelters on the Kenai area last year got euthanized. That is SO sad! It makes me very upset and emotional. So please, please, please - if you can do anything important and meaningful after reading my words, do not breed your pet. Even if it would be so cute if YOUR dog or cat had babies. It's not cute anymore when you can't find a home for all of them or if they end up dead somewhere. Sure, Chhaya would look so adorable with a litter of puppies suckling her. She would be a great mommy. But reality is that there is no way I could guarantee that I could find good responsible owners for her puppies. There are so many pitbulls that end up in shelters, I am not contributing to that.
At work there are a few girls that been letting their cats have multiple litters. Hopefully they will read my sign and THINK. I really hope they do.
Also, so many people just abandon their pets when they get tired of them or when they decide that having a pet doesn't fit their lifestyle anymore.
How cruel! A pet should be like a family member. If you are not willing to treat your pet as a member of the family - you should NOT have a pet.
I would never abandon Chhaya. She is my baby. And my friend. That is priceless.

Santa's Little Helper

Tatiana finally got done with writing all the Christmas cards, stuffing, wrapping and tapeing the packages, phew........that whole procedure
kept her up until about 2 am last night. A trip to the post office today.
What's on the pic does not include the gifts that will be hand delivered, those are stuffed in gift bags. Then there is a Toys For Tots donation
and this year Tatiana pulled an angel card of the Christmas tree inside the Kaladi coffe shop.
She will be the Secret Santa to a 12 year old girl.
Tatiana got her what she wished for. And last but NOT least, some food donations to some local animal shelter for the dogs and cats.
No animal belongs in a shelter, please keep that in mind if you currently have an animal or are thinking about getting one.
It is a responsibility! Chhaya, my puppy, is my biggest love, but she depends on me for food, shelter, care and love.
If you can't make that commitment then refrain from getting an animal. Also, do not breed your pets! Yes, little puppies and kittens are cute but
there are too many of them getting euthanized every day because somebody bred their pet and could not get rid of the litter.
Or they end up as snake food, dog fighting bait, research objects in some lab, abused etc - is that the fate you want for your dog or cats litter?
Think before you breed and make the right choice!!!
If I would breed Chhaya with another bluenose pittbull I could get up to $ 1000/puppy.
Depending on where I would sell the puppies. Chhaya is that pretty and has papers.
But I'd rather be without the money, knowing that I do not contribute to the problem of abandoned and unwanted dogs.
No animal belong in a shelter!!!

Besides that, Tatiana thinks she might be getting sick. Her body and joints hurt.
She is going to make herself some hot tea now, bundle up and read her new book and go to sleep.
