Week 19 & 20

Week 19, it has been several months since I posted the weekly work at the club updates. Not sure why the pictures are showing up this blurry, they look better on my phone.

This is what one does when the club is empty, or if nobody is sitting around the stage and paying attention to you. There are many people that go to strip clubs and do things like read a book.....yes we had a guy that would sit at the bar and read a book the whole time he was in and he would usually stay for a couple of hours. The club was his library. He was telling us by his actions that the book was so much more interesting than everything else and that he was too intellectual for us. I feel that there is a time and place for everything. Just like I would not wear only fishnet stockings and a bra while shopping for groceries, although I would fit right in at certain Walmarts wearing just that, or sit and read a book during a concert. Anyhow, I of course did not engage with him. Sit there with your book. Some come in just to play pool and stare at us. And some come in to drink only and stare at us. You know.....because there are no regular bars to go to, if you go to a strip club to drink you can sit there with a beer for a few hours and stare at girls for free. In some clubs they tell the people that come in and do this to leave. Good! But since our club is a bar and not a strip club (according to the owner of the establishment) it is more than ok that people sit and stare at us for free while drinking beer. Whatever. I do know this, if the dancers would stop showing up the bar would last maybe a month.
In Oregon we also have something called video lottery. Some sort of a gambling machine that people will sit in front of and stare at for hours. The video lottery machines are often more interesting than the dancers. But a lot of times the people playing the machines will engage with the dancers. They do get up and away from the video lottery trance and tip us.
Week 19. At the beginning of the night on Friday an older man that has no money came in. I know that he comes in just to talk, because he is lonely but he is nice and actually has something to say, I do enjoy bantering with him. So I sat in my street clothes and talked to him for like 1 1 /2 hour. He says that he comes in to talk to me, I don't mind. I am a therapist as well. Some people just want somebody to talk to. Nobody was dancing on stage. One girl was on stage taking pictures of herself. The older man left and after a while some people came in.
It was a slow night but I entertained myself by playing fun songs to dance to. Then another person came in just for me. Turns out that I have a whole crew of people that come in just for me. That is so nice!

Siren wrote that one the board. I thought that was cute.
And that my friends were the last pictures that I took at that club. That was my last week there.
Since those were the last pictures, I am including this one too that I took a while back but forgot to insert in the weekly recap. When people leave you change as tip. I guess in Canada leaving coins as tip is normal. Some of their coins have more value than the coins here in the US. If somebody would come in with a suitcase full of coins for me I would take it. Bring in the bags and suitcases full of coins that you have collected over the years!
Anyhow.....I saw the coins and picked them up. And said yes......laundry money thank you! But in general it is seen as rude (at least in the US) to leave coins as tip. Perhaps the person that left me the two quarters was poor and that is all they had?
I've been tipped a deck of cards and a can of sardines before. So.....

Food At Burning Man

You should bring everything you will eat, drink and use to Burning Man. Unless you stay at some plug-and-play camp, which even if I was a millionaire I would not do. I want to have the whole Burning Man experience, even the struggles.

And we had this luxurious set up. I did not need to unpack my camp stove or the propane that I brought. Yeay! Our kitchen was underneath a large canopy that provided shade and shelter and we also had a large table with seating. So nice.

The First Couple Of Days At Black Rock City

Join me on my first couple of days at Black Rock City. The best city on the planet!
I drove my car from Oregon to Nevada. It was the first time traveling to Burning Man by myself. I arrived at the line of vehicles going into Black Rock City around 3 15 am and I was thinking ok......maybe three hours or so until I get in. Well, I was wrong. It took about seven hours and it was brutal once the sun came up. Then I was asked to go to the D Lot, which was a first, so somebody could inspect a small piece of carpet that I brought to decide if I could bring it in or not. That took time as well. I was tired and hot, sitting in a car for seven hours inching forward is not fun. It usually does not take this long, it all depends on when you arrive. So I got to the Black Rock desert the night between Sunday and Monday September 5th. And got my ticket about 9 30 am. Brutal.

Then I found my camp, said hello to my campmates, most of them I had not met before. And started to unload my car and putting up my tent. It was sunny and hot and I got tired fast. After I struggled past that and got some food in me, I biked out on the playa and looked at the Man. And biked around some more.
I can't really describe in words what Burning Man is about. A lot of people come back year after year, I am one of them.
This is my home for about a week a year. It truly is a place of a lot of amazing things.

I wonder how AI might change Burning Man in the future? I need to go back while things are still "normal".

Tuesday the wind picked up and it stayed windy basically through Thursday late afternoon. Windy means dusty. And it was VERY windy. My tent ripped at some point but not until later in the week. The tent rattled around violently non stop, I am surprised it did not blow away. It was so dusty inside the tent that I woke up on Wednesday morning with completely shut eyes with green eye pus. I spent the next two nights in my campmates RV.
Because of the wind it made it difficult to do anything and see anything. I tried but it was hard. I biked far out on Wednesday afternoon with one of my campmates to go look at some art and we ended up in a complete whiteout. It was his first Burn and he had arrived in the US from Saudi Arabia the day before he left for Burning Man. I really wanted to go dancing that night but didn't because of the weather.
You need long tent poles, here is my collection (not all of them of course, I have like 10 of each or so).

Covering up the face and eyes is a must when it gets dusty. The sand is very fine and soft and blows everywhere. We had strong winds, up to 40 miles/hour. Or more, I am not sure. The wind was so strong that I did not have to pedal my bike at times, I just sat in the saddle and sailed around with the wind. Crazy.

And some cute couple bikes. It is so cute when people make their bikes look fun and cute. I am too lazy, I have lights on my bike and that's it. No E bike for me, I pedal around. Great excercise.

By Tuesday evening I looked like this. A complete mess. My visions of looking cute and beautiful and taking some pretty pictures of myself flew out the window. My hair, coated in a layer of dust here, basically stayed in a braid to the side the whole Burn except when I went foaming and a few more times. White eyebrows, yikes. Make up? Forget it. I brough my make up bag but only used lip balm and a tweezer. I had dust and crust all over. You pull slugs out of your nose.
I do not know how people manage to look flawless at Burning Man. They probably stay in RVs or camper trailers, which is much easier than a tent. If one can survive Burning Man in a tent for the whole Burn week one can survive a lot, that is all I can say on that.
I told my campmate that my fingers were brown because I fell into a porta-potty. She believed me at first. LOL. I was eating trail mix with chocolate that had melted, hence the brown fingers.

Axis Mundi

This year's Burning Man art theme was Axis Mundi. Next year it is Spellbound. I hope that they (the BORG) make the art theme more obvious next year. When you first get into Black Rock City, which is a city built from nothing and becomes an amazing magical place, you get handed the What? Where? When? book and a map of all the camps and other important information. The 10 Principles of Burning Man are explained. Although there are Burning Man phone apps now (like iBurn), which are easy to navigate and tell you everything.
I have all my books saved. All my stickers saved. I cleaned, organized and put away my Burning Man bins the other day. Took inventory of what I need to stock up on for next year, if anything. I think I will get a new pair of boots for next year, a robe to schlep around in when I first get up in the mornings, some soft slippers (I had a pair in 2023), a warm fake fur hat for the chilly nights and a longer coat. Yes, I definitely want to experience Burning Man (again) next year. I LOVE Black Rock City!
I made new friends this year and we are planning on going back, most of us. A lot can happen in a year......so I am hoping that Burning Man 2027 Spellbound is in the cards for me.

Week 10

Here is the recap of week 10's community service. Wednesday started out rough. First set on stage first shift of the week and I had to yell at an idiot to stop looking at me and stop talking shit. This particular predator has been coming in since I started at the club. He used to come in with a sad looking girlfriend and just sit at the end of the bar, down one beer after another and stare at us, the girlfriend kind of just sitting there patiently waiting to leave. I would always give her kind eyes and glare at him. His attitude sucks. Then he started coming in with another girlfriend. And repeat what he did with the first. Poor girlfriends. And then he became friendly with the owner of the club, so he would come in a lot and sit and talk to her for hours and drink for free. Somehow he thinks that he is El Jefe or something, I don't know why. He is super gross and extremely annoying, does not spend a dollar on the girls, gets way too intoxicated, acts aggressive with the customers in the club and acts inappropriate with the dancers that are foolish enough to spend more than one minute on him. He was in there from the beginning of the night until the end, pathetic idiot.
Anyhow.....one guy remembered me from last time he was in there about a year or so ago. I vaguely recalled him. He said that I am just amazing and so talented. Ehhhhh ok. Yes yes, very talented I know. I do as little as possible and move slow like a sloth. And the he said that our little club is his favorite place to be in the world and that he think it is just so much fun and wholesome. That was cute. He was nice, normal and well behaved. Thank You for acting normal. Normal behavior is almost rare nowadays. We have a new sign up.

Then we had another painfully slow Friday. I felt warm and then I was freezing. The club was cold. Again.
A guy that attended last week's Fisher Poets Gathering event was in. So I asked him to write a poem about us. And he did! The Fisher Poets Gathering has been going on since 1998, it is a thing.

Later on in the evening a drunk disheveled lady with Theresa Caputo hair stared at me and loudly declared "she is old" and then she cackle laughed. I paid her no attention but I told the bartender that if she decides to say anything else about me I will throw my eight inch heel on her and knock the wig off her head. I might be old but I am not ugly. AND LISTEN UP, I have worked with all kinds of dancers ranging from 18 to 60 plus. Ranging from super skinny to large. I would NEVER EVER go in to a strip club as a visitor/customer, look at the girls and loudly talk about them. This club attracts the worst gutter dwellers. If I could find a club in the area with strictly NO touching I would happily go there. Like tomorrow.
The worst thing about this club is the type of customers that come in. So many, TOO MANY, of them are the most annoying simple minded idiots. And then this boy came in that only comes in for me. I call him boy because he is like 23, he is nice and he is actually good looking. Which is a bonus because that is rare as well. He said that that if I am not in there he will walk out.
I guess he doesn't think that I am old.
In fact, if I could figure out something else to do that is NOT soul crushing and pays what I need to live, I would no longer dance. Because the idiots are not worth me even breathing in their direction.

Today

Today I had to go to the grocery store, two different ones.....I do not like being in the grocery store. Too noisy. Too many people meandering around, yes I know that I am one of them. I feel like a sheep in a herd. Then I had to pay bills, do all that stuff one has to do in order to live in society.....and there are days when I just do not want to do any of that. In fact most days I do not want to do adulting. Because adulting mostly sucks. Who enjoys getting gas, grocery shopping, paying bills, dealing with rent and/or mortgage payments, checking and answering emails, laundry, work, driving in mind numbing traffic.....and it just goes on and on. Barf. I just want to be a stay at home pet mom at this point and do as little adulting as possible.
BIG yeay for bagless grocery stores. I think it is ridiculous when people buy one or two items and want a bag. For what?
You cannot carry those items without putting them in a bag? Bring your own bag. Some stores offer recycled boxes to put the items in, that works too. Do I use my own bags......of course.

One of my lattes this week. Note to self - I should bring in my reusable cup more often. I am planning on drinking coffee at home in bed for the rest of the week until Sunday. And next time I go to the coffee shop I am bringing in my own cup.

Next week I have to go to the DMV......definitely not looking forward to that.

Reality Arrived

Well reality arrived.....I reluctantly made it back from Burning Man last night. Not at all thrilled to be back. I have showered, washed my hair and put on lotion. And sat down on a real toilet seat. This was probably the dirtiest and crustiest I have ever been. Before I go to bed I will drink more water, layer on more lotion and brush my teeth. This is a picture of my Playa hair, which felt like a heavy cake resting on my head. It was in one braid off to one side for most of the time on the Playa.
Hopefully I won't lose too much hair when combing it out.

I have cried leaving Burning Man before. Reality is different than Black Rock City. And yes I know that if I lived at Black Rock City year round it would become reality as well, a rather harsh reality because Burning Man is NOT easy.
So yea....reality again, or the Default World (everything that is not Black Rock City) with everything that comes with that. I do not want to check my emails, go to the grocery store, sit in traffic, pay bills and go through the endless tasks on my to do list.

Week 15

Recap of week 15. This is like the third of fourth (I lost count) weekend in a row when the club is empty or almost empty on a Friday or both Friday and Saturday around 11 pm. When people eventually do come in they look around with a worried expression on their face and ask if it is always this slow. No sir, we killed everybody and put the bodies in the basement. Please join the fun!
I entertained myself by taking pictures of myself. Suck it in and arch the back.
Somebody asked me if I have an eating disorder, because I am so thin. I promise, I do not have an eating disorder. I do not diet, no Ozempic. I love food and eat a lot actually. I do not think that I am alarmingly thin, I am (for me) on the heavy side right now. Lots of flesh to grab on to. I also do not exercise and my arms and thighs are flabby. Sadly my butt too (nooooooo!) I am too lazy to exercise.

We have like five reminders in differents spots around the stage that people need to tip. Just in case they forget you know......it is so easy to completely lose any and all brain activity when naked, or in my case almost naked, girls prance around on a stage in front of you.

I got a new outfit. When I bought it I was feeling kind of MEH and thinking that I hope I won't be buying these kinds of outfits for much longer. But you never know. I might be sitting here ten years from now writing about some other outfit that I got for the club.....anyhow, here is the outfit. You cannot try these on in the store, you buy them and hope for the best.

And although pretty it is not long enough for me in the torso. I am hoping to be able to pull on in to stretch it out so it fits better.

I got new books.....yeay! Sita's (Kaylin) newest "Anything But A Boring Life" and "Face Value" by Christine Macdonald. Both authors used to dance. I have Sita's first two and I have written about her books in the blog.

A guy from Sweden came in this week. That was FUN! He was super nice and we conversed in Swedish. He actually got a 10 out of 10 on how men should behave when they visit a strip club.
And now to how you should NOT behave in a strip club. Two couples came in together, so two men and two women. They happened to be hispanic but I have seen similar displays of this behavior with white couples as well. The women had clearly never been to a strip club before. Which is fine if you act normal. But they did not act normal. They were turning away from the girl on stage while laughing and making ugly faces. One of them flipped off the girl on stage, like held her middle finger up towards her for a good 30 seconds. The girl on stage was very patient while the rest of us just watched the spectacle unfold. I would had not approached them whatsoever had I been on stage. In fact there was a couple in during the week that were sitting at the stage. And they were tipping and having fun. When It was my turn the woman was talking about me in a way that I interpreted as not ok so I stayed away from them and I told them to get a lap dance with one of the other dancers instead. Meaning instead of sitting at my stage talking shit, go be useful somewhere else. The woman right away had to loudly inform me that although she thought I was beautiful I was not THAT beautiful and in fact I was a bitch. Ok......whatever.
Go away, you had too much to drink and you are trashy. And then they had to complain to the bartender about me. Oh no......I am shaking in my 8 inch heels! I tell people to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau if they are not happy.
I was talking about these situations with one of the girls that I work with and she said that a group of people had laughed at her Friday night. She is beautiful and super nice to every customer, not at all confrontational and snarky (like me). I don't know what's wrong with some of the abusive individuals that insist on going to strip clubs when clearly it is not the right environment for them to be in. Stay at home please.
I think I loudly exclaimed to myself different versions of "what am I doing here" about 30 times or more during Saturday's painful shift. I so wish for something else but it is what it is right now......

Last Year's Burning Man

The art theme of last year's Burning Man was called Tomorrow Today. I had a ticket but decided against going. All my Burning Man gear was stored in the very back of a storage unit, I did not want to move stuff out in order to get to the Burning Man gear. It felt overwhelming. I also did not want to go by myself but finding somebody to experience Burning Man with is not that easy. I am not looking for somebody to latch onto at Burning Man but going with a friend is nice. I was also very sad almost all of last year and I did not want to feel like that at Burning Man. I ended up watching Burning Man online, there was a 24/7 camera at Black Rock City. I was a bit sad that I did not go but I survived. Here are some pictures that I took of last year's Burn while watching it on my iPad.

Wellllll.....there are people at Black Rock City right now, most of them have Early Arrival passes and are working hard setting up for the coming week. The 2026 Burning Man art theme is Axis Mundi. "Latin for axis of the world describing a symbolic or physical center point that connects the heavens, the earth, and the underworld." I love the theme and I am heading towards Black Rock City in a couple of days.

Creepy

I picked up a hitchhiker the other night. Maybe not a big deal for some that do this on a regular but for me it is. Why? Because you are picking up a stranger that can turn violent and psycho in an instant, that's why. I was driving home from work and it was around 4 in the morning and it's cold at night here in Kenai now. My car was covered in frost when I started it I remember and the temperature hovered around 28 degrees. So I'm driving and I passed up a guy with his thumb out. I was not going to stop at first, the roads here are dark and at that early hour there is almost no traffic either. So you are basically on your own. But then something inside of me felt bad for him, it was cold and I did not want him to freeze. Before analyzing it anymore, I put my foot on the brakes and stopped the car. I think I have picked up two other hitchhikers in my life, while being alone in the car and a few more when having another person with me. Anyhow, I gave him a ride to where he needed to go with no incidents. It felt good to help somebody in need but I feel like picking up hitchhikers, especially male hitchhikers when you are a girl alone is risky. That's a real fact and nothing made up. Too risky for me. I mean, if something happened to me my Mom would probably die from grief and then I have Chhaya to think about. I did offer a girl walking alone on that same stretch of road a ride a while back, it was after work too for me and it was raining but she declined. She probably was scared of me. LOL. Because you never know so I do not blame her a bit. Better safe than sorry. I've been to Burning Man three times now and never had any creepy experiences with guys on the Playa until this last Burn. Sure, guys want to dance with me and stuff like that......and I usually turn them down because I don't want unwanted touching. My experiences with guys on the dance floor is that they will inch closer and closer until they basically have, or try to have their you know what against my body and no thanks on that. I call them dickthrusters. If I like you.....I don't mind being close. But that does not happen often. Anyhow.....so it was the last night of the Burn and I was at Planet Earth dancing. A few guys asked if I wanted to dance but I politely declined. I mean, we can all dance TOGETHER as a group at Planet Earth, that's how I feel. When Planet Earth closed down I decided to swing by Center Camp real quick before heading for another place to dance. I sat down at Center Camp and got busy with looking through my camera when one of the guys that asked if I wanted to dance with him at Planet Earth comes up to me and asks me if I knew what time it was. I told him I did not know and then he asked me if I were the girl from Planet Earth and I was like......ummmmm, yesssssss. So then I got up to leave but I noticed him still hanging around in the background. I got on my bike and after about a minute biking felt weird, it turned out my rear tire was flat. Now I had to walk with my bike across the WHOLE Playa from Center Camp to White Ocean. It was really cold and dark, not many people were out at all since it was like 5 am Monday morning and basically Burning Man was mostly over. So this guy followed me across the whole Playa but at a distance, I knew it was him because he wore a distinctive looking hat. So in my mind I am thinking......what should I say if he approaches me......what if he tries to touch me or do anything bad? Why is he following me? All these thoughts raced through my head, it took at least 20 minutes, if not longer, to walk that distance and he just kept following me. That is creepy! To clarify here, I have no problem talking to guys. I don't mind human interaction but when a stranger deliberately trails behind me in the dark and I am all alone.....yes, that made me feel weird. So I got to White Ocean and it was done, no more (ugh) but close by I heard some good beats and headed over there, sure enough the guy tagged along. I parked my bike and three people on a couch asked me if I wanted some Tequila and an olive. I sat down, had an olive and I started to tell them about the creepy guy. So the girl I talked to, her name was Amber by the way......asked me to describe him and right then he walked past us and just staaaaaaared. She (Amber) and I stared back at him and he ended up leaving. I sat and talked with these nice people for a while and then I got up and danced. Did not see the guy again. I can't help but wonder if he was the one that arranged the flat tire. My tire was fine from Planet Earth to Center Camp, he followed me to Center Camp, most likely saw where I parked my bike.....oh and that small black thing (valve cap?) that is on the tire was gone too and I knew it was there the day before because I checked. I don't know.....that was just weird. My Playa bike.

So while talking about this subject, getting weird vibes from guys and such, I want to mention the BLISS project. This year the third and last art project in this installation was featured at Burning Man. A statue of a woman standing called R-Evolution. The BLISS project is to raise awareness to the feminine and to respect women, to end violence against women, objectification etc. The person behind this (Marco Cochrane, yes a man) found out that his best friend when he was a child (a girl) had been raped. She was only nine. This horrible event stayed with him. I love the meaning of the BLISS project. I did not get to see the first statue in 2012, Bliss Dance but I saw Truth Is Beauty and this year's R-Evolution and they were both AMAZING. The meaning behind the BLISS project is something that I care a lot about. Women's rights to exist without having to fear for safety. Women's rights all over the world in general. No matter what we wear and where we are. Me a couple of years ago on the Playa with Truth Is Beauty behind me.

Week 16, 17 & 18

The days and weeks are going by so fast it all becomes a blur. And I did not take any pictures these two weeks except one. This picture for week 16, of the earplugs in my hand. Sometimes (especially on weekends) the club is SO loud. Yea it is REALLY annoying actually, like torture. I just put in earplugs to escape the noise. I need to remember to do this more often.

Somebody wrote me a poem. It is actually from a few weeks ago but I will include it now. I guess the poem came about because he (a nice man that comes in once in a while) said "What am I supposed to do with you" and my response was "Ask Chat GPT"......and I guess it sounded like "Ask Chad Geepiti" to him at first. LOL! Anyhow.....the poem is great. He showed it to me on his phone so I took pictures of it to save it forever.

Week 17. Ummmmmm what else? We had a couple of new girls but they only lasted like two shifts.
Week 18. This week one of "our" girls quit because she moved. No more purgatory torture for her - LUCKY her!
The new Exotic magazine came out at the beginning of the month. And in it there is a recurring column called "Tales From The DJ Booth" written by some strip club DJ guy called DJ HazMatt. This month he writes about "12 Rules For Stripping". And I never thought that I would see a man actually recognize and APPRECIATE that less can many times be more. So I guess we are on Rule 5 this month, which is titled "Show Less, Make More".
Unfortunately I work in a club where majority of the clientele consists of Larry The Cable Guy, Wrestlemaniac and Kyle Rittenhouse fans type guys and lookalikes and most of them are just not sophisticated enough to appreciate a certain kind of classy and finesse. Instead they appreciate when girls rip off their underwear ASAP and spread eagle, exposing EVERYTHING down below, even some stray butthole hairs, which is something that I do not do. But to go back to the article in Exotic.....headlines like "Your Body is a Steakhouse, Not a Buffet" and "There Are Degrees To Nudity, so Learn to Edge" are written. And, "Nude is nude; it doesn't have to be graphic" and "While buffet dancers are busy treating their customers like their gynocologists, your job as the steakhouse is to put a top-shelf price tag on any part of your body that would get flagged for removal by Instagram", also "If you are required to get fully naked on stage at a club, do so in a way that would blend more into a Playmate Video calendar than something you'd see in a human anatomy textbook". YES to all of that! I do not take anything off on the stage since a while now. And I never understood why girls rip off their bra two seconds after they step on the stage and in nude clubs take off their underwear on the first song out of two or even worse, on the first out of three songs. Just WHY? It is called strip tease but that is overlooked and forgotten. Or to (again) quote the article, "It's a "flash" dance and a strip "tease", not a "speculum simulator" or a "cave dive". Again, a man wrote this, which is surprising but once you work in a strip club for a while (like a DJ in this case), after the initial shock and excitement dissipates you will start observing stuff and start paying attention to details.
When I would take my top off on stage in either topless or nude clubs it would be on the second song out of two. If/when I did take the bottoms off it would be on the last song. NEVER on the first. Then I decided to stop taking anything off. We do NOT have to take anything off on the stage. To me most of the clientele are so boorish that if somebody wants to see more they have to pay more. As it should be. Get topless or totally nude for a few bucks??? Are you kidding? Sadly some dancers do just that and in my opinion contribute to cheapen the whole idea of what a strip club should be.
When dancers start yapping about that they dance because they just LOVE performing yet they hurry out of their outfit, all of it, on the first song I always smirk. If you truly love to perform only as an exotic dancer, you hold off with taking off your outfit and/or you seek out clubs where a lot of emphasis is put on the performance part.
I am ONLY at this club because the no touching is strictly enforced. If all the clubs would be no touching, I would be at a different club with hopefully more sophisticated clintele. We have a few good ones, like the poem guy. Some men do actually appreciate the less is more principle.

If you noticed, I have been absent from the blog but I am back (I think). I had some sad, difficult and stressful events happen back to back and it was too overwhelming for a while. I will ease back here with some recent pictures. Me and Kaya have been enjoying homegrown organic berries since a while now. No I do not grow them but a friend does and gives us berries. Kaya loves eating berries.

Last night's Wordle. On two. I've had a few on two but never managed Wordle on one. Have you? I play Wordle with guys at work too. Instead of being bored out of my mind by the same repetitive conversations.
