Burning Man 2018

We left Burning Man Monday September 3 in the morning, exodus took about two hours. Not bad.



Reality had arrived - Burning Man was over for this time. I hope to be back at Black Rock City next year!



The theme for 2019 is Metamorphoses. It's just perfect. ❤️

The last night at Burning Man after Planet Earth was done I took my time biking home through the Playa.....I wanted to take it all in one last time before getting back to the RV and going to sleep. I knew that after a few hours of rest it would be time to get ready and return to reality.
So I came across this light and thought my bike looked kind of nice in the different shapes the light made.....and then I thought I would put my face in the light and snap a few selfies. I am not going to anger you with putting up all 20 of them (you know me, I am myself my biggest fan) but here are a few. This is the face of one week at the dusty Black Rock City on a bike.....no make up and all those filters people use to distort their real face - just bliss.

I am not quite done with my Burning Man pictures yet.....so here is Burning Man 2018 continued.....ENJOY!
Starting my days off at Center Camp figuring out what I am in the mood for by looking in the What Where When book.



The Temple this year was called Galaxia.

I did not go inside the Temple, way too emotional. But I took some pictures of course.

I watched this man that looked like a scary movie butcher carve impressive ice sculptures to some really good house music beats illuminated by a large disco ball - only at Burning Man!

Last night close to 4 AM at Planet Earth. The music had stopped.....no more until next year!



I totally agree with this.....when some random dude (it's always a man) comes up and tells me (or other women) to smile. WTF? Go away please. Do men tell other men they don't know to smile too?



I came across this somewhere way out on the Playa.

She is baaaaaack! The Playa Barbie Black Rock City Edition 2018 - this very collectible Barbie sells out as fast as the Burning Man tickets in the general sale do, so put in your order now!

This year I was a DJ at Planet Earth Burning Man. Planet Earth is one of the few indoor places at Burning Man, they have an indoor area with a DJ booth, a bar and an outdoor space with a DJ booth. It is named Planet Earth after the Duran Duran song.
I DJ'ed two one hour sets, Friday and Saturday both in the main indoor area. The genre I picked was 80's new wave and pop. Initially I applied for three sets, I wanted Friday, Saturday and Sunday and ended up getting Friday and Saturday. How many sets you get depends on the amount of DJ's applying for that particular set and your experience plus affiliation with the Planet Earth camp. In the end I did three one hour sets because Porter, the main organizer of Planet Earth and also one of the DJ's gave me his 1 AM - 2 AM Saturday night set! YEAY! Porter DJ's at the Cat Club in San Francisco and he created Planet Earth Burning Man to resemble that club.
So I decided I wanted to DJ at Planet Earth after getting home from the 2016 Burning Man and this year it became a reality! I have been going to Planet Earth since my first burn in 2013, one of my fave places to be on the playa!
I used a Pioneer DDJ-SB3 controller, downloaded a DJ program called Serato DJ Lite plus all the songs I wanted to play and I brought my laptop. I already had a pair of Pioneer headphones since many years, I finally got to use them in a proper DJ setting. I started my first set with Scotch "Disco Band", in case you know that song.....great tune. If I do this next year - which I hope to I am thinking about getting a different laptop and download the Serato Lite onto it so I don't bring my nice MAC laptop to Burning Man.....to avoid getting it dusty. And it wasn't even that dusty this year.
This DJ experience was AMAZING , SO much fun and I am very HAPPY that I did it.....! Plus I got so much positive feedback, I didn't expect it. Even on Sunday the night I didn't DJ people came up and told me that they really liked my sets. !!! 🙂

So much art and of course I did not see it all. In hindsight I wish I would had made more of an effort to see more of the art. I need to remember that for the future. Here is a fraction of the art of Burning Man 2018.
Bloom. A 40 foot tall jellyfish that first appeared on the playa last year.



I don't know this art's proper name, so I will call him Samurai.

Passage. I really liked this one. A man made of steel walking and touching some wheat.
The wheat represents the food we need to survive. Beautifully made, lots of detail.

Come-Million I found not too far from the trash fence (outskirts of the playa).

Great Train Wreck. These two trains faced each other on a track, one evening they collided and wrecked into each other and went up in flames.

Night at the Climb In. I heard they had to rope this off after somebody fell down from it.



Rabid Transit. Very impressive mutant vehicle spewing fire and propane.





In Every Lifetime I Will Find You. This one I very much regret not seeing and I searched for it my last night at the playa but I could not find it. I hope it will be back again, if not.... perhaps it will be out there somewhere in the default world. So pretty! Somebody else that saw it sent me this photo. I wish I had a photo of this couple during sunset.



Last but not least....Larry Harvey.



I also wish I would had seen a dog named Dot. This is the story behind it, "This art piece was done in memorial of a Burner who passed away recently. His dream was to build a sculpture of his beloved dog Dot to share with the playa. His campmates lovingly fulfilled his dream this year with this furry, lovable piece. People were invited to leave notes on the art piece and to vocally interact with it."
