Take Action

Tonight I sat home and watched The Cove . It's a documentary about the slaughter of dolphins in Japan. September is when the season for slaughtering the dolphins begins. So it's going on right now - unless people can stop it.

I am not sure if this petition is outdated, the movie was made in 2009. But I still signed it.
You should too, it only takes a minute!
In the documentary you can watch the dolphins get slashed while the ocean is red from their blood.
I would rather beg for money on the street than make a living like that. And dolphin meat is high in mercury, enjoy eating it.
People are disgusting. But what else is new?
And yes, of course I am against dolphins being used at aquariums world wide, like Sea World for example. Even when the excuse is made that we can "learn something" from them. How would you like if somebody caged you up for the reminder of your life and studied you? Ponder that for a minute.

Anyways, I am at home tonight. Thinking about the evil things humans do to animals, the environment and each other. I am glad I don't have kids. I wouldn't want my offspring to grow up in this world.

Aware

According to the FBI Uniform Crime Report both Anchorage and Fairbanks are two places were the threat of sexual assault against women is clear and present. Yes, that includes rape.
Both are high up on the FBI's list of the 10 most dangerous cities for women. Too bad. Alaska is one of the least populates states in the US but it's two largest cities are on that FBI list.
That's creepy. There must be a lot of sexually deviant men creeping around here.
But there is an app you can download to feel a little more safe. It's called StreetSafe and has one feature called "Walk With Me" that will allow the user to stay in touch with an advisor while for example walking home alone at night. Or walking through a parking garage to a car.
Another feature activates a silent alarm in case of an emergency, the operator will call 911 and track the phone down.
Or you can, like me........put a bullet through anyone trying to harm you in any way.

Food for tummy and brain......

My daily must have cravings......latte and some kind of pastry. Have to say that Two Sisters in Homer has an excellent choice in pastries and sandwiches. Plus I love Adbusters, one of my fave magazines. Pick it up, you can find it at Barnes & Noble.

Can you see what it says?
"Hey all you sleepwalkers and latte-sippers out there! So you think you know what's going on...huh?"

Yes, that includes me. I think I know but I don't. I am trying though. Have to try harder!
Maybe one day I can make some positive differences that will really mean something. Big or small, doesn't matter. You might think that I only care about gossip, looking cute and pink lipgloss. But you don't know ME then. That's ok, I don't expect you to. I am just putting it out there....... ;-)

Blue for Tuesday

Woke up feeling happy this gray Tuesday. Spent time on the phone with Mom and friends. Wearing this new cute blue slouchy shirt paired with some new leggings/yoga pants from Hard Tail. Heading out for my latte and some errands.......Have to download some more music, my new fave song is Lights by Ellie Goulding - it's SOOOOO me, I LOVE it!!!! ♥

Frozen & Numb

So yesterday I got up at 7 AM because I had to drive to Anchorage to participate in a photo shoot. A married couple that own a (professional) photo studio contacted me a while back, asking if I would like to work with them on a project. I said yes.
We shot at a waterfall in Eagle River, a very beautiful part of Eagle River that I've never been to before, I think the name of the waterfall is Barbara Falls.

I stood ankle deep in that glacier water and let me tell you......it was freakin' FREEZING! If I had fallen into that water, I would had died from hypothermia within five minutes. My feet were frozen and totally numb, it took a while for my poor feet to feel normal again.
I also sat on some rocks, trying to look cute and dreamy while my teeth were shattering and it was somewhat difficult to concentrate on keeping a pose with nice lines when you are that cold. But the photographer was very happy with me, so he said at least. I really do hope we got some good shots, of all the shoots I've done, that one is probably the most uncomfortable I've been, due to how cold I was. But what don't you do for the sake of art?
Afterwards he asked me if I would be interested in working with them on bodyscapes. That's when you focus on a certain area of the body and play with light and shadows, the result can be quite beautiful. This for example......(not me in photo).

After the shoot I needed to eat, I was starving and I also gulped down two cups of hot chai at the Yak & Yeti.

Then - shopping.
Needed some make up and other things. Treats for Chhaya. Stuff........you know. A girl always needs more stuff...... ;-)
Got home a little after midnight and took a nice, warm bath. Now I'm in bed - my eyes are soooooo heavy, time to sleep.......

Into The Sun

Sunday........woke up at noon, drove to get a coffee and a scone. Came back home, blue skies and sunshine. Laid out. Spent about two hours cleaning the house. Got hungry. Drove to get some pizza and ice cream. Got home. Ate. Brushed Chhaya, clipped her nails, took her for a walk.
Went for a run. 28 minutes. Felt great, felt very alive. Ran towards the sun. It was very pretty. Saw a porcupine, a moose and nine caribou today.
Watched a movie. Had tea and a KIND bar. Spent some time on painting my nails, hands and feet. Also shaved, scrubbed, washed hair, put on lotion.
Need to wake up around 7 AM tomorrow and drive to Anchorage for a photo shoot.
