Days gone by - Vegas

It's a very fun, grey and cold Tuesday here. So uplifiting indeed!
So Tatiana was reminiscent about Vegas the other day, when she moved there etc.
Do you want to hear about it? Of course you do!
Tatiana moved to Vegas with her friend Shelley. They looked at about ten different places before they decided on where to live. Tatiana wanted a nice, clean and roomy apartment. Finally they found a place that fit the bill, in the South West.
Tatiana and Shelley lived together for a while and then Shelley met a guy and eventually moved out to cohabite with him. He was a brilliant magician but also a very troubled and dark soul. Needless to say, it didn't last between Shelley and the magician. Like so many Vegas romances.
He did perform some magic tricks for Tatiana in that apartment that she will NEVER forget, quite amazing.
So Tatiana found herself living alone in this roomy apartment and that was not the initial plan.
One night she went to Drai's after work. Drai's used to be very popular after hours club, it's still around.
Tatiana was sitting down with some friends when a guy sauntered over and started up a conversation with her. His name was Mike and would become Tatiana's next roomate. Mike was (and is) a great person. He was studying to become a teacher and finished his studies and is working as a teacher in Las Vegas right now.
Back in those days he was a student and also work as a host at PF Chang's and sub for other teachers when they were sick.
He also really liked to party! Oh, if only the parents of the kids he has in class now would know about some of the adventures of Mike the Teacher. He has so many crazy stories that he is thinking seriously about writing a book about it all. He should! He even has the title picked for this master piece.
Anyhow......... Living with Mike was great. Tatiana got along with him fabulously and they would often go out together and have SO much fun. Many memories!
Favorite spots would be SRO on Sundays and GLO after hours any other day of the week. Besides Utopia, a legendary Vegas club no longer existing, SRO and GLO were really fun, full of locals and tourists that all had a very good time. Great music, Tatiana's style totally.
Then Tatiana got really bored and tired of Vegas and just had to go somewhere else for a while. So she packed a couple of suitcases and went to London. Auf Wiedersehen Las Vegas! Meanwhile Mike bought a house. The plan was that Tatiana would continue living with him after her return to Sin City.
So while Tatiana was in London, Mike moved all her stuff over to the new house. Then they agreed to get a third roomate. Another guy. Somebody they both knew. Mikey. So now Tatiana lived with two guys. Super cool!
Tatiana knew Mikey and liked him a lot. Mike had actually introduced them to each other at Utopia of all places.
So don't say that you can't meet good people in night clubs, it's been ten years and Tatiana is still very close friends with both of them.
There were some great times in that house. Mikey was a student at UNLV and also worked as a waiter. Nowadays he is making a great living working at a ritzy mega club on The Strip.
Mike wanted us to become a reality show, like have cameras filming our shenanigans 24/7. That is how entertaining it would be at our place at times. The only dull moments would occur when nobody was home. Then the cockroaches could roam freely.
Tatiana wanted to start a band with her two roomates. Her chosen name for the band was "Dirty Sanchez", brilliant huh!? And though neither she, Mikey or Mike could play any instruments she was convinced they would make it big by just being themselves. Some drums, a tamburine and Tatiana on the mic, voilà! Great success!!!
Unfortunately, Mike and Mikey didn't share this vision with her. Tatiana is still to this day positive that they would had developed a huge following.
Though Tatiana got along really well with Mike, her and Mikey had some intense clashes as roomates. There was not room for two queens in the house, if you get the point........some people are better of as friends only, not roomates. And that was the case with these two.
Today they remain the bestest of friends, Mikey is Tatiana's little Skrinkle and Tatiana is Mikey's Skroodle.
All good things eventually come to an end and Mike decided to purchase yet another house. And at that point Tatiana jumped on the real estate band wagon too and got approved for a loan and moved into a condo. BIG mistake from a financial standpoint.
Aaaaah............those were the days in Vegas!!

Yaaaaaawn........

Tatiana just feels like a big yawn today, tired. And kind of BLEH. It's probably weather related.
Did some errands earlier, ate tomato soup and cheese sandwiches - AGAIN - have to do some dishes and fold some laudry still. Feed Chhaya.
Put an order in for some new food from Solid Gold for Chhaya. It's called "Sun Dancer". Right now Chhaya gets "Wolf King" but Tatiana wants to give her "Sun Dancer" too, it's the latest Solid Gold dog food. Maybe check it out for YOUR dog, if you have one. It's supposedly very good!
That should answer the question to "what else do you do?" The ever so frequent question that Tatiana gets at work.
Tatiana does STUFF, just like everybody else.

10 years later

Today the whole country is going to reminisce about 9/11. So Tatiana is joining in.
It was a Tuesday if Tatiana remembers correctly, she was sleeping. You know, Tatiana usually wakes up around noon. The phone rang and woke her up. It was her Mom calling from Sweden asking Tatiana what was going on. Tatiana had no idea what was going on, she stumbled into her roomate Mike's room, he was sleeping also. She told him to get up and together they sat on the edge of Mike's bed, watching everything on tv.
Tatiana remembers feeling really, really bad for the poor souls jumping to their death from the towers. How horrible!
Later that evening Tatiana met a friend down at The Strip, that is Las Vegas Boulevard. The Stratosphere was closed down due to the scare that it might get bombed too. People were speculating that Vegas could be an attractive target for the terrorist, being Sin City and all, full of tourists and also close to Nellis Air Force Base.
The Strip was calmer than usual but there were still people out and about, drinking and partying. Tatiana and her friend strolled up and down The Strip.
Work definitely slowed down after that. Tatiana was at Crazy Horse Too then. The club printed up a bunch of t shirts with different 9/11 motifs on them. Tatiana still has a few. Memorabilia!

When this happened Tatiana had been in Vegas for about a year already. She moved there from California.
About six months after 9/11 Tatiana ended up working at the Stratosphere as a hostess dealing with Asian, mainly Japanese, tourists and business men. That was an interesting gig. Tatiana is going to have to write a blog about experience.

Yeah, Tatiana is against war and crazy political and religious bickering. What nonsense! Maybe if more women were in power this could be avoided. Who wants to fight wars and go on bombing missions when you can do things like have afternoon tea at the Four Seasons? Or spend a day hiking to some hot springs or strolling through some fab mall? Or watch a fun movie? How about catching up on your beauty sleep? Or, the best option, dance like crazy to some hypnotic House music?

Sometimes people ask Tatiana if she is religious. "Spiritual" she usually answers. Being of Polish origin she did go through the Catholic Communion but when she got older religions like Buddhism and Hinduism started making more sense to her. And now she is spiritual. Actually there is an interview in Ode magazine, that is a magazine for "intelligent optimists", in the July/August 2011 issue, that stands out.
The subject of the interview is Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and he says something Tatiana totally agrees with, so she is going to quote this intelligent man here.

Q "Do you believe in the value of religion?"
A " I would say (I believe) in the value of spirituality. There is a difference between the two. Spirituality is the essence of all religion, and it combines the core values of humanity-compassion, love, honesty, caring. It is all- inclusive and universal. This is were the focus should be."

AMEN to that! Tatiana could not had said it better herself.

Here are some pics from Farm Fest. It was not very entertaining, more oriented towards people with small childern. And Tatiana does not have any of those, children that is. The moose call contest only had two contestants, how disappointing! Tatiana would think that in a place like Alaska where half of the people Tatiana encounters are extremely into hunting and fishing would had brought out more moose call talent, but no. Tatiana was tempted, for a split second, to offer her own talent in the competition, though she has no clue of what a moose sounds like. Just to liven things up a bit.
But there were some horses there. And Tatiana LOVES horses, she wants to find some to ride around here.

After Farm Fest, Tatiana and her companion stumbled upon another event called Enchanted Forrest. This was some kind of a hippie (?) gathering or something. Advertised as a music and arts festival. There was a band playing, pretty good and a small crowd of people had gathered, most of them in tye dye shirts and dread locks. As soon as Tatiana walked in there, a drunk and angry "lady", if you can call that thing a lady, approached her and demanded a ride to town for a $ 5 donation. No thank you. Tatiana declined. Then she got approched by a group of dusty, frozen kids asking for money. Hellooooo, go ask your parents!
The Forrest Fair was not at all amusing. Tatiana was hoping that it would be like a mini Rainbow Gathering, she has been to one of those once but this was far from it.

Tatiana made a mental note today. It is probably time to return to The Lower 48, sometimes in the near future.
