Tatiana and Julia decided to meet at the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace for some last minute New Years Eve shopping. Tatiana was running a little bit late due to some bad drivers and a few wrong turns, so Julia had a few minutes to kill while she waited.
As she waited impatiently by one of the bars, a man and his ten year old son approached Julia. The man made small talk and questioned Julia's reasons for being at the casino. He introduced his son and explained that they were visiting from San Diego. Julia didn't know where the conversation was leading so she excused herself, telling the man and his son that she had to go meet her sister Tatiana in the mall.
As Julia walked away, she thought to herself how bizarre it was that this man was talking to her so openly in front of his young son. What did the boy think his dad was doing? Julia was concerned about the situation. She wandered into a shop and within minutes the man and his son were standing right in front of her. 'What the hell are they doing?' Julia thought to herself.
The man then informed Julia that his son would be going to sleep around 10pm and that he would be free to go have some drinks after that. Julia looked at the son sympathetically. 'Poor kid', she thought.
Suddenly the man thrust a blank piece of paper and a pen in front of her face. "Here," he said. "Write down your number so I can call you after the kid goes to bed."
Julia smiled and wrote down Tatiana's phone number on the paper. 'That's what she gets for being late.' Julia decided that it was Tatiana's fault this man was talking to her and probably traumatizing his son.
Later that night, after the shopping was done, Julia called Tatiana to see what she was doing.
"A guy just called me," she said. "He said his son was sleeping and did I want to go out on a date with him!" Tatiana sounded pissed. "Can you believe that? I don't even know him!"
"That's wierd." Julia was imagining the man's facial expression during the brief conversation. "Where do you think he got your number?"
