When I have downtime at work I sometimes make myself a cup of tea, read the newspaper, turn up the music and sing loudly and dance (when nobody is in the place besides us staff of course), make sure we have enough to go boxes and to go cutlery made up and if not I prepare some, refill sugar dispensers, dust off the espresso machine.......
Everybody that comes in is nice and I truly enjoy adding some happiness to people's day with a yummy coffee beverage, or tea and desserts. But there was an older stern manly looking woman in the other day that did not like me upon entering, then she sat at a table with her family and glared at me. Like......OK lady feeling in a bad mood or something? What else.....oh, one of my co workers told me that she likes working with me because I am no drama. I was like.....THANKS! And then I said, "What kind of drama could there possibly be at a CAFE??? Now if we were in the strip club we could maybe talk about drama!" Oh yes, they know about my dancing. I told them. I have nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, I have plenty of examples of people that were never dancers that SHOULD be ashamed for being shitty people with questionable morals and no respect for themselves or others. I don't fit into that category. But back to drama.....I don't like drama, I find it so stressful, unfortunately I have been surrounded with a lot of drama producing people and getting more drama thrown at me than I could have ever wished for.
And look at our pet! His name is Basil.....as in homage to Basil the Rat from Fawlty Towers. I love Fawlty Towers.....I have all the episodes on VHS. And Andrew Sachs that played Manuel (I know nothing!) recently passed away......or passed on I should say. I spent many fun times watching Fawlty Towers with my brother - we share the same kind of humor.
So Christmas is around the corner. In Sweden we have advent. Basically a countdown to Christmas by lighting candle after candle until four candles are lit.
I miss my family for Christmas.......

A very interesting holiday and festive blog post... except for the lady customer that did not like you. Did you serve her and her group or did one of your coworkers serve her? I have worked with the public and there are folks that like me and those that don't... without ever talking to me... perhaps they didn't like what I was wearing or not wearing... or my makeup.... or too much exposed skin... or not enough?????
Certainly Christmas time is a time that most of us interact with and spend time with our families... for most it is an enjoyable thing.... but for some, family is a problem and unhappy issue... more than likely the family feels the same way about the unhappy family member.
Probably no snow in Vegas but up north where I live a white Christmas is a certainty... it is snowing now, about 10 inches on my sidewalk even after I shoveled it a couple days ago.... the roads are icy and slick, and it is cooooold outside. Perfect weather for Christmas!!!! A couple years ago I went to Hawaii at Christmas time... with the sun, warm weather, palm trees, etc... it just didn't feel like Christmas to me. I am certain that a Swedish girl like yourself may feel the same way.
Obviously you will miss your family at this time of year but be thankful for Skype, Facetime, Facebook, Email, etc..... did you get all of your gift packages sent off to Sweden?... I hope you did with only 13 days till Christmas.
Wishing you a blessed and Merry Christmas and hopefully you plan to spend time with your local friends that also may not have family around. Definitely do not allow yourself to celebrate Christmas alone... but of course you always have your pal Chhaya.
Enjoy you Christmas holiday as best you can.

I took her and her family's order and served them, she was disapproving of me when walking in. I could see it in her face.
I don't wear make up in the cafe. But I dress nice.
I went to Hawaii once too for Christmas time.....with my Mom and brother.
I decided to send the packages next week. Or the week after.
As long as they get sent it will be OK. I can't stand long lines at the post office.
It's going to be only me and Chhaya for Christmas, I will call my Mom. I thought I had a "family" in the US but I was mistaken.
But I have Chhaya and I have a clean heart and clean conscience and that is more than I can say for certain other people.
I will watch "Kalle Anka och hans vรคnner รถnskar God Jul" and "Sagan om Karl-Bertil Jonssons julafton". The latter is a wonderful story and both are Christmas staples in Sweden that I grew up watching.

For Christmas video viewing I like some of the older movies like (Bing Crosby) White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life (Jimmy Stewart), Ben Hur (with Charlton Heston)
As I have said to you previously....... I am wishing you a wonderful and merry Christmas.
