I had a busy day today and got a lot done, it feels good to get stuff done.....doesn't it? I had to make myself a list this afternoon to look at my tasks in writing.....besides the usual stuff I do everyday. Like the daily latte and take care of Chhaya etc.
I am saving the leg waxing, hair coloring and pedicure for next week.....those things are not urgent. I have not had nail polish on my toes since October now, I decided to let my toenails "breathe" after having them painted for years. Of course I don't walk around with talons hanging over my heels......kind of like this.....not so SEKSI maybe?
I still keep my toes neat and clipped, just not painted but next week it's time for some pink to get slapped on them.
So I got my taxes and lots off other things done today.....what a burden off my shoulders! Now I am watching Jimmy Fallon (he is so cuuuuute!) and writing this. So I'm basically relaxing.
I took Chhaya on two long walks today and this pic is from one of them, she is my little daredevil, always willing to do whatever I suggest. She is sleeping and snoring in bed right now.
The Iditarod race is going on in Alaska right now, several of the participants have scratched during this years race, meaning they dropped out for various reasons. I am against this race and I wrote about that last year. I don't care that it is a "tradition". That doesn't make it right, like plenty of other traditions. For example FGM (Female Genital Mutilation), Bull Fighting and other traditions that hurt innocent people and animals. I think that the dogs in the Iditarod race get subjected to cruel treatment, they run 1000 miles (I think actually over 1000 miles) in cold and harsh conditions, I feel bad for their little legs and paws.
And to point this out even more, I picked up the Redoubt Reporter today, a local weekly paper. Somebody wrote in a letter to the editor about the Iditarod race. This is what she had to say, "A few years ago I visited Alaska to explore the possibility of one day pursuing my dream to participate in the Iditarod. I went home with memories of glorious vistas and the warmth and courage of most of the Alaskan people, but my opinion of the Iditarod was radically changed. I watched with my own eyes a dog being repeatedly punched, kicked and slammed to the ground by a top-10 Iditarod musher. As hideous as that was, what haunts me most is knowing that dogs spend the majority of their lives on the end of a chain running circles into the frozen soil. To think about the senseless numbers of dogs who pay with their lives in the quest to breed a champion. The "slow" puppies and shotgun fodder. It is 2014, and it's time to acknowledge the stark truth of the Iditarod's cruelty. We can and must all work to change this inhumane mindset - please have the courage to speak up with me."
I absolutely agree with this person. The musher that wins the Iditarod gets a new truck and money. The race also brings in revenue for Anchorage and the villages that the Iditarod goes through = $$$. So it's all about the car and the cash. While the dogs suffer for however long it takes for them to reach Nome. If you want that truck and the money so badly, why don't you walk to Nome in the snow and cold yourself? Or go to work and buy a new truck. I would never subject Chhaya to that just so I could maybe win a car. I think the Iditarod is animal cruelty. I don't care that a lot of people say that these dogs "love to run". Really? How do you know this? They love to run for 1000 miles with almost no rest, get to sleep outside in the cold, fed some raw and frozen fish? Live their lives outside chained up? I don't think so.

There is a vet that checks the dogs that drop out of the race and the dogs that finish. There are several animal rights groups that have spoken up for the dogs and are against the race. Only after some involvement from these animal rights did the dogs conditions improve during the race, like mandatory rest stops and some hay to lay on while sleeping, before they ran the dogs to the ground and had them sleep on the ice......all to win that trophy, truck and money. Greed is what it is. I have no admiration for people like these.
