Tragedy

A very unfortunate tragedy happened last Thursday morning at Burning Man. A girl died after she fell off an art car and either got hit by it or got under it somehow. Her name was Alicia and she was described by her friends as "a ray of sunshine in every situation, and an amazing artist who radiated wonderful vibes." Alicia has been in my thoughts and I can't even imagine being on the receiving end of getting horrible news like that about a friend or a family member. This makes me sad. It was not fair. A tragedy absolutely. Poor girl. I'm so very sorry. Why???

When entering Burning Man you get a book called "What Where When". It tells you everything going on at Burning Man, hour by hour from the start until the end. Well, not really everything......there is a ton of other things happening that are not in the book but What Where When is a great tool and start and gives you so many choices on how to fill your days at Burning Man. There is also a map of all the art on the Playa (this year 233 pieces) and other useful info.
Here are some examples of stuff going on and the book is 160 pages......so there is a LOT to do at Burning Man......it's impossible to do it all and see it all.

All Things Burning Man
A day dedicated to exploring and developments taking place within our community of Burners around the world.

I could continue for hours writing down stuff from What Where When......that was only a scratch on the surface. I was busy dancing at Planet Earth and other places, enjoying my time in Center Camp, biking around on the Playa feeling so very ALIVE (sometimes in dust storms battling through sand and enjoying every second of it) admiring art and engaging in people watching, talking, taking pictures etc. I did go to a few events that I looked up inside What Where When. Of course I rode the worlds best vibrator and had VAGINE washes and massages daily. I miss the Playa....... ;-)
I have 800 plus pics to sort through and pick out for the blog......so bear with me. My Burning Man experience will continue.

~ Alicia......may you fly with the angels ~

Packing

I'm packing for Burning Man tonight! I have two boxes of KIND bars. Belts. Sunglasses.
My goggles from last year. Bandanas. My new Fjällräven Kånken backpack (a Swedish classic). Two pairs of fringe boots that have been waiting for the occasion. Lights to put on my bike and on myself so I'm visible on the Playa at night. I'm not done with the packing yet, I have to take a shower and wash my hair and the toiletries go in last. I got a new memory card in my camera and I'm planning on taking lots of pics. As always I'm packing more than I will use.
Oh well. I'm not bringing my laptop......there will be no blogging from Burning Man.
Most likely a short entry tomorrow at some point and then I will be busy until I leave the event. I just read some reports that it's been raining hard in the area of the event and people have been turned away at the gate because the road is mucky mud and not safe for driving.
It looks like the weather will be better tomorrow. Wow......I sure hope so.

Ticket

I got my ticket for Burning Man yesterday! And a vehicle pass and a Burning Man survival guide. "Burning Man takes place in the beautiful, remote and inhospitable Black Rock Desert of Nevada, in a temporary metropolis called Black Rock City. As wonderful as BRC may be, the desert is governed by physical laws that cannot be ignored. You are responsible for your own survival, safety, comfort, and well-being and for ensuring you Leave No Trace."

I don't know how I am getting there yet.....besides on a flight out of Alaska. I don't know if I will be in an RV or a tent. So as of now.....things are up in the air. My plans were kind of like that last year too and I almost didn't go but then I decided to just do it and I had one of the best adventures of my life!

Caravansary

I got my ticket and I am happy, excited and emotional! I have been reading about this years theme and it's going to be AMAZING! I am so grateful and feel very blessed that I can do things like this. I went last year (my first time) and it was one of the best things that I have done in my life. I love Burning Man! Read more about Burning Man on www.burningman.com

"This year we will create a caravansary that occupies the crossroads of a dreamland: a bazaar of the bizarre wherein treasures of every sort, from every land and age, flow in and out to be flaunted, lost, exploited and discovered. This is not a tourist destination, but a home for travelers who come here bearing gifts. Amid the twisting and the turnings of its souk, participants will come upon an inexhaustible array of teeming goods and unexpected services. Anyone may pose as 'merchant' here, and anyone may play a 'customer', but nothing in this strange emporium shall have a purchase price — no quid, no pro, no quo — no trade at all will be allowed in this ambiguous arcade. According to a rule of desert hospitality, the only thing of value in this 'marketplace' will be one's interaction with a fellow human being.

Our desert inn will also be a scene of luxury and cultivated ease. An apron of fine carpets will spread out beneath the shade of portals that surround a courtyard. Here travel-wearied pilgrims may relax, inventing pastimes as they watch the whirling world go by. Workers of great wonders will be welcome here; fakirs, dancers, sadhus, seers and potentates will throng through this performance space, like figures that adorn the fabric of a silk brocade.
Finger cymbals, chimes, and music of acoustic instruments will fill the air. By night, bathed in the lambent glow of lanterns gently swaying overhead, fire spinners will perform around the Burning Man. This year's Man will rise directly from the desert floor and tower many stories high. Its massive torso will evoke a tiered pagoda; its ornate head will be a lamp that welcomes people home."

"Much travel is needed before the raw man is ripened."
—Proverb of the Caravan of Dreams
